Gretchen Lyell Duffin

Hi, my name is Gretchen.

I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee (the Country Music Capital ...you know those icons like Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Roy Orbison, Tammy Wynette etc...)

I haven't lived in Nashville for some time as I've spent seven years in England and now I'm very grateful to be back in the sunshine in the south of France.

I have many interests and therefore never seem to have enough time for everything (I really don't understand how anyone could ever be bored!), however my passion is photography. What kind of photography? I enjoy capturing people doing what people do - carrying on with everyday life. Landscapes, abstracts and the small things that many people usually just pass by without noticing interest me and I try to find different ways to capture these things.

I also design for web and print, and I love seeing all the various typography that people create and how it's linked with various color schemes. Whoever said "blue and green should never be seen" must have never been in Provence to see the amazing shades of green against the bluest skies. Stunningly beautiful. If I ever become complacent about it someone better give me a good ole slap!

When I'm not hovered over my computer, I enjoy watching films, listening to a wide range of music, a glass (or two...) of our local red wine, pizza (au feu de bois), dark chocolate (preferably Belgian), cycling (not as much as I should), gardening (...because it won't take care of itself), visiting with friends, and especially exploring the countryside with my rescued dog, Yoshi, a sweet and loyal Akita Inu...my 'petit toutou'.

Written on the City
authors - Axel Albin and Josh Kamler

I stumbled upon this interesting project in which these two creative guys were collecting images of what has been written on cities across the world.

Fascinating.

As they say in the book, "someone is trying to tell you something".

I contributed this photograph which I took while in Venice near St Mark's Square.
